Drawing 1 of 2 · the wetroom floor
Five layers that keep water in the shower and out of your ceiling
Layer 01 · A solid floor
A floor that won't flex or crack your tiles
On a timber upstairs floor we drop the deck between the joists, reinforce them, then screw down 22mm WBP marine ply. That is what lets the finished tiles meet the landing flush.

- Threshold
- 0mm · flush
Layer 02 · Falls
A gentle slope, so water runs away from the door
One continuous 1:60 fall across the floor to the drain, set and checked with a laser, so water runs away from the doorway and never pools at the screen.

Layer 03 · Tanking
A fully waterproof layer, sealed at every seam
A Schlüter-KERDI waterproof membrane is bonded across the whole floor and turned up into the waterproofed shower walls, with every overlap sealed. Then we flood the floor for 24 hours and check the ceiling below before a single tile goes down.

Layer 04 · Drainage
A slim drain that clears more water than your shower delivers
Rated at 42 litres a minute, more than any shower head we fit, with a 50mm water-seal trap to keep drain smells out. The membrane bonds straight to the drain flange.

- Trap
- 50mm water seal

Layer 05 · Finish
Non-slip tiles, even when wet
Large-format porcelain on a solid bed of flexible C2TE-S1 adhesive. No dot-and-dab, so there's no hollow under a tile for water to sit in.

- Slip rating
